State media: Qatar names new energy minister

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates  — Qatar's state news agency said the OPEC member's emir has unexpectedly named a new minister to head the oil and natural gas-rich country's influential Energy Ministry.
Qatar News Agency said Tuesday the previous minister of energy and industry Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah has been appointed to head the emiri diwan, or emir's court. It serves as the center of government for the country's hereditary ruler. He will also remain deputy prime minister.
A top official in the energy ministry, Mohammed Saleh al-Sada, was named the new minister of energy and industry.
No reason was given for the surprise shift. The energy minister typically serves as Qatar's representative to OPEC.Tunisia's interim leaders have sought to stabilize the country after riots, looting and an apparent settling-of-scores after autocratic President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia on Friday.
