Toddler saved by liver transplant

A Mitzpe Ramon toddler aged two years and four months received a new chance at life over the weekend when a new liver was transplanted into his body at Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petah Tikva.

Nehora’i suffered from a defective liver that failed to produce an enzyme; the lack of it caused his condition to decline seriously in recent days. His mother was preparing herself to donate a lobe of her liver to him in a complex operation, but just prior to that, they were told that a child’s liver of a compatible type had become available.

"I am moved to tears that a noble family agreed to give his organs and saved my son’s life," she said. The operation was headed by Prof. Eitan Mor, head of the hospital’s transplant center, and colleagues. Schneider performs the vast majority of organ transplants in Israeli children.
