US prof. detained for allegedly selling Israeli artifacts

A history professor from the United States on Monday was detained for questioning, after he allegedly sought to smuggle and sell abroad hundreds of stolen artifacts from Israel.
The professor apparently sold silver coins from the Second Temple period and pottery lamps dating back 1500 years ago, and planned to leave the country with a handful of assets and cash totaling more than $20,000.
At the end of the investigation, the suspect was allowed to leave the country after he deposited a large sum in the country which would ensure his return for a future trial in Israel.
