Venezuela to grant 1,000 Gazan students opportunity to study abroad

Venezuela announced on Sunday it will accept 1,000 Palestinian children from Gaza to study in its country, as part of an education program spearheaded by President Nicolás Maduro, Palestinian media reported.
The decision by the Venezuelan president comes on the heels of seven weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas, which left the already dire Gaza Strip with many schools in ruin and scores of students without proper education programs.
According to reports in Palestinian media that surfaced Sunday, President Maduro, who took over the divided country in 2013 as the successor of longtime leader Hugo Chávez, talked out the plan at length with the Palestinian Authority.
The final agreement which includes complete funding for the students will go forward "in the near future," according to reports and when both sides see fit.
