Wiesenthal Center denounces Japanese newspaper for advertisement

A leading Japanese business newspaper, Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Japan Economic Times), ran an advertisement on Monday for two books linking Jews to the current economic crisis, according to the Simon Wiesenthal Center. The Wiesenthal Center has called on the newspaper and its parent company, Nikkei, to apologize to its readers for the advertisement, which promoted the books "Why did the Jewish Financial System Collapse" and "Jewish Money: Why They Continue to Move the Global Economy." According to the Wiesenthal Center, the Nikkei company made a commitment in 1993 to stop running ads for books with anti-Semitic themes, after a surge of such books in Japan in the 80's and 90's. This recent advertisement broke that commitment, the Wiesenthal Center said, which they had helped broker in meetings with the company.
