Meretz chairwoman Zehava Gal-On praised an announcement by the government Monday that it would not close Hebrew-language ulpans. "Teaching Hebrew to those immigrating to Israel is of great importance," she said.

Gal-On said she was pleased that "the state committed itself to guaranteeing to continue operating ulpans."
