US: Increased Hezbollah action in Syria undermines Lebanon

May 25, 2013 01:45

The US called on all parties in the Middle East to desist from escalating the conflict in Syria, which could result in the spread of violence beyond its borders, a State Department spokesman stated Friday.

Any decision by Hezbollah leaders to increase the group's involvement in the conflict would be viewed by the US as undermining "Lebanon's dissociation policy" at the risk of involving the country in a foreign crisis, according to the spokesman. The US expressed its concern for Lebanese security and stability following recent clashes in the Lebanese port city of Tripoli between gunmen aligned with opposing factions in Syria.
