100 tour guides are authorized to work in Bethlehem

After a successful pilot program, the Tourism Ministry on Tuesday authorized 100 Israeli tour guides and drivers to bring tourists to Bethlehem and Jericho.
The program, intended to help further promote Israel as a "safe tourism destination," was a joint project with the Tourism Ministry and the Civil Administration.
Praising the program and the cooperation with the Palestinian Authority necessary for the program to succeed, Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov said, "I see great importance in the tour guiding in Bethlehem which will facilitate an increase int he scope of the tour guides' work, allow for top-level guiding for tourists, an increase in cooperation with the PA and, of no less importance, an improvement in the international image of Israel and the Holy Land as a safe destination for tourists."
