Israeli municipal elections delayed, to take place January 30

Municipal elections, which were supposed to take place on October 31, will be held on January 30 instead due to the security situation, the Knesset decided Monday.

The decision, which had widespread backing in the Knesset, was passed in a 17-0 vote.

According to the law, if circumstances still make it impossible to hold the elections on the new date, they will automatically be postponed until February 27.

Despite the vote, further legislation will be required to determine how various issues affected by the delay will be handled, but these were separated from the legislation to postpone the election date so that it could be determined as soon as possible.

All preparatory work completed by deadlines preceding the beginning of the war with Hamas remained valid.
