Palestinians to hold local elections July 9

The Palestinian Authority said it has scheduled local elections for July 9 in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Spokesman Ghassan Khatib said the Cabinet set the date on Tuesday set the date.
Khatib said that if Hamas blocks elections in Gaza, they will be held only in the West Bank.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas canceled local elections scheduled for July of last year, fearing losses by his ruling Fatah party.
The PA last held local elections in 2005.
