Both the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University condemned Kisch's call to cut funding to their institutions.

This follows earlier reports of the Teachers' Union rejecting the compromise proposal to shorten the planned strike from three hours to just one hour.

The opposition head laid the blame at the feet of the government, and called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop the incitement.

The initiative aims to provide a supportive educational and community response as part of the broader effort to rebuild the north.

Economy Minister Nir Barkat accused Qatar of being the world's leading sponsor of terrorism and called for Israel to take legislative action declaring it a terror-supporting state.

Kisch gave preferential treatment including prioritization of ministry funding, to certain cities with Likud mayors who could influence Kisch’s position in the next Likud primary election.

The schools were largely repaired with the help of volunteers from around the country who sent several weeks in the northern city.

“We, presidents of the universities signed below, hereby warn against an unprecedented threat to the rule of law in Israel if the attorney-general is fired,” the letter began.

"I hope other universities will follow her and take responsibility for ensuring a safe environment for Jewish and Israeli students and faculty," said Yoav Kisch.
