Report: Salafi, Mubarak ex-VP fail in election appeals

CAIRO - The committee overseeing the Egyptian presidential election has upheld rulings disqualifying eight candidates from the race including Hosni Mubarak's spy chief Omar Suleiman and Salafi preacher Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, the state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported online on Tuesday.
The committee had yet to decide on appeals against disqualification lodged by two other candidates including the Muslim Brotherhood's Khairat al-Shater, Al-Ahram's online addition reported. Reuters could not reach officials on the committee for comment.
