Airport manager: Ben Gurion not built to handle bad weather

The manager of Ben Gurion International Airport Shmuel Kendall stated on Tuesday that Israel's main airport is not capable of handling flights in extremely poor weather conditions, as was experienced Monday night.

Ben Gurion Airport - like most airports around the world- was not built to handle conditions such as the heavy fog that fell upon the Tel Aviv area late Monday night and lifted Tuesday afternoon, and Israel should build an alternative airport to handle such situations, Kendall told Israel Radio on Tuesday.

Kendal added that if the fog reappeared Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, more flight would have to redirect to airports in other countries until conditions would allow them to land in Ben Gurion.
