Hundreds of thousands visit nature reserves over holiday

Some 700,000 travelers visited the country's nature reserves, national parks and forests throughout Rosh Hashanah and the Shabbat weekend that followed, according to Israel Nature and Parks Authority and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund data. The INPA reported about half a million visitors to its nature reserves and national parks, with travelers taking advantage of the warm weather and opting for sites with water particularly in the North.

Some of the most popular INPA sites included Tel Dan, the Banias, Snir nature reserve and Nahal Majrasa. For culture and heritage experiences, Israelis flocked to Beit Guvrin, Ashkelon National Park, Ein Gedi and Einot Tzukim. Many people also came to Palmahim Beach, and about 4,500 audience members attended an Arik Einstein tribute at Afek National Park, the INPA said.

As far as KKL-JNF forests are concerned, the organization reported a total of about 200,000 travelers at its sites, with thousands of cyclists taking to trails in the woods each morning – particularly in Hulda, Ben Shemen, Adullam, Shikma, Ramot Menashe and Beit Keshet. With squill plants in the peak of their blooming season, tens of thousands of travelers also visited sites like Tel Shimron in the North and Hevel Habsor in the South to see the flowers, KKL-JNF added.
