'PLO creation most important event in Palestinian history'

Palestinians should remind [themselves] that the creation of the Palestinian Liberation Organization is the "most important and significant event in the history of the Palestinian people," Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Tuesday, Palestinian news agency Ma'an reported.

Speaking at a meeting to mark the 49th anniversary of the PLO's founding, the president stated: "[Ahmad] Shuqeiri was asked to figure out what the Palestinians wanted, and he returned with the convention for the PLO," Ma'an quoted him as saying.
