PM to ask government to approve new National Economic Council chair

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will on Sunday ask the cabinet to approve the appointment of Prof. Eugene Kandel to head the National Economic Council, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office released Friday. Kandel will replace Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg, who has chaired the council since 2006. Kandel, who currently heads the Jerusalem School of Business Administration, holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in economics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an MBA and doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago.
