Bahrain king sets up fact-finding team

DUBAI - Bahrain's king ordered on Wednesday the formation of an independent fact-finding mission to investigate weeks of protests that rocked the Gulf island nation earlier this year, the state news agency said.
"After a number of consultations, among them with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, we order the establishment of an independent committee to investigate facts from the events of February and March" King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa said, speaking at an extraordinary cabinet session.
The move comes ahead of a national dialogue set to start on Saturday, and may be seen as a gesture to opposition groups, who have yet to say they will join talks.
