Japan issues travel alert for Europe

TOKYO (AP) — Japan issued a travel alert for Japanese citizens living or traveling Europe on Monday, warning them of possible terrorist attack by al-Qaida or other groups.
The alert followed similar warnings from American and British authorities.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry's announcement called on citizens to be cautious when using public transportation and visiting popular tourist sites.
A Japanese official said it was highly unusual for Tokyo to issue such a warning for travel in Europe.
He spoke on condition of anonymity in accordance with ministry policy.
