UN envoy arrives in rebel stronghold for talks

BENGHAZI - The UN special envoy to Libya Abdelilah al-Khatib arrived in Benghazi on Friday to meet officials of the rebels' provisional council, rebel officials said.
"He is coming to Benghazi to see the transitional national council about the situation and the needs of the people. We hope he will see for himself the effect on east Libya," Salah Hedin, a senior member of the council's foreign affairs committee, told Reuters.
Hedin was part of a welcoming party waiting for the envoy at an abandoned military airfield outside Benghazi. The party included a UN security detail and armed rebel militiamen.
